Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy takes a holistic hands-on approach to remedying medical conditions. It is a well-established medical profession which has fostered close links with amongst others, Consultants, GPs, Osteopaths, and Chiropractors. We work with you the patient to resolve your health issues in partnership guiding you to a lasting solution.
At Brookfields we are proud of our wide knowledge base, which is continually supported by courses given by world leaders in their field. All our Physiotherapists are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and are regulated by the Health Professional Council both bodies require continuing professional development.
We are uniquely placed between the established medical and alternative fields and in this way can form a bridge to bring you the best available treatment and information to relieve your symptoms.
Treatment options include:
- manipulative techniques
- postural re-education
- progressive exercise regimes
- hydrotherapy
- neuro-physiotherapy
- specific treatments after joint replacement, fractures, trauma and sports injuries
- coordination programmes for dyspraxia
- educational and proactive advice
- risk assessments
- electrotherapy
- acupuncture.
We pride ourselves on the time we spend with you, our examination process and our observation skills. We consider all aspects of your life, as well as the specific problem you are presenting us with. We then together tailor our treatment to arrive at a workable and appropriate solution to resolve your symptoms.
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is a treatment in a warm pool maintained at a constant 90°. It is a safe environment with the physiotherapist beside you. Exercise can then be performed with less weight through the body, using support or resistance whichever is more beneficial. Water is the perfect medium for many conditions as the whole body can be treated more readily than on dry land. Regimes are progressed throughout your recovery. It is not necessary to be able to swim.
Following an initial treatment, we may chose to provide a regime for you to continue on your own with regular reviews and revisions, supported by an individually-tailored exercise sheet.
We have regular tri-weekly aquarobics classes taken by a physiotherapist, please ask for details.
Throughout the week there are a number of organizations and charities using our facilities. These include Newbury MS Society, Newbury Parkinson’s Society, Newbury Stroke Club, and Newbury Cancer Care, to join any of these classes you must first contact the specific organization, details can be found on our website under Organisations at Brookfields.
Rehabilitation Programmes
We are able to offer fitness and rehabilitation programmes:
- As a final stage of rehabilitation following surgery or injury
- When you are planning to take up a new level of physical activity
- To improve your existing level of fitness
- Sport-specific training
Together we identify any areas of weakness and tailor an exercise programme to suit you and your time schedule. This regime is regularly monitored and further developed with achievable targets to enable you to attain your desired level of fitness.
